Introducing LearnTech
LearnTech has been designing and developing training and assessment materials since 1992. We believe technology can enrich the learning experience, using:

  • text, screen or print-based
  • still and animated images
  • voice support for reality and clarity
  • computer-delivered or traditional video
  • very accurate simulations and case studies

Meet Jeff Parkes ~ Managing Director
Jeff is an Instructional Designer specialising in the design and development of online training and performance support materials. He has a passion for preventing wasted time and rework by using automation.

Jeff has training in Instructional Design, programming, writing, philosophy, biology, teaching, music, audio production, photography and video, woodwork and art ...

... and experience in technical and instructional writing, graphic design, video editing and voice-over, teaching, and a wealth of project management. He's done voice-overs on an instructional video series and several CDs.

Jeff's background has given him a great ability to communicate with people from all walks of life and a solid understanding of the need for organisation and reliability.

Development Methodology
This is the methodology we've adapted from the Heinich, Molenda and Russell ASSURE model specially for online development. Following these steps minimises errors and rework. We have developed an online tool which we use to track and manage each project's development.

1. Analyse the client/s and learners Identify and document the client and other stakeholders:
  • Client type and size
  • Personal and/or personnel profile
  • Subject matter experts
  • Specific site requirements.

Identify the learners' general characteristics, specific entry competencies and learning styles.

2. State needs and objectives Identify the training intervention needs and write the instructional goal/s.

Formally state what the learner will be able to do as a result of the training, under what conditions and to what level of performance.

3. Select/confirm selection of the media Use the results of the learner and client analyses to ascertain if the training needs and objectives can be met using the proposed instructional strategy.

Determine the suitability of the platform and authoring package.

Establish the high level design of the curriculum, material structure and user interface.

4. Use the media and selected materials Research, select and modify existing materials or design new materials to consistent formats.

Plan detailed training structure, navigation and test items. Build in the evaluation methods.

Adapt tools to automatically build materials into the media.

5. Recursive formative evaluation Conduct and observe pilot/s with representative learners.

Examine results of pilot/s, reports from observers and recorded evaluation information.

Revise and repackage the materials as required and deliver the training.

6. Evaluate the project Collect data from learners (often automatically) and perform statistical analyses.

Document and report on summative evaluation:

  • Learner training durations
  • Development time and costs
  • Other specific identified/requested items
